Dr. John Mandrola, MD, F.A.C.C.
Dr. John Mandrola practices cardiac electrophysiology in Louisville, Kentucky. He graduated from University of Connecticut School of Medicine and did internal medicine, cardiology, and electrophysiology training at Indiana University. He is a writer and podcaster for Medscape.
He espouses a conservative approach to medical practice. He participates in clinical research and writes often about the state of medical evidence. He has co-authored two books—the Haywire Heart—a review of arrhythmia in athletes, and Fogoros’ EP Testing (Wiley). In 2019, he co-authored 19 peer-reviewed papers.

Jamie Falk, B.Sc. (Pharm), Pharm.D
Dr. Jamie Falk is an Assistant Professor at the College of Pharmacy, University of Manitoba and practices as a clinical pharmacist in the department of family medicine at the Kildonan Medical Centre. He currently focuses his clinical and research attention on chronic disease management, specifically related to optimizing medication prescribing and utilization and the appropriate use and translation of evidence-based information into patient-centred practice.
Shawn Bugden, B.Sc. (Pharm) M.Sc., Pharm.D.
Shawn is the Dean at the School of Pharmacy, Memorial University. Working in Evidence-based healthcare and biostatistics. Pharmacoeconomics and health outcomes, Drug use evaluation and safety (pharmacoepidemiology), Health policy and regulatory affairs, Knowledge translation and academic detailing, Biomedical ethics, Pharmacy practice, Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and interprofessional education.
Murray Enns, MD, FRCPC
Dr. Enns is a Professor in the UM Department of Psychiatry, and the Medical Director of the Operational Stress Injury Clinic in Winnipeg. He is an author of 160 peer reviewed publications in the areas of depression, anxiety, suicide, and post traumatic stress.
Dr. Enns was formerly the Head of the UM Department of Psychiatry and Medical Director of the WRHA Mental Health Program (2006 to 2016).
Karen Toews, BSc. MD CCFP FCFP
Dr. Karen Toews has been practicing family medicine for 23 years at Steinbach Family Medical. Her practice includes general family medicine, obstetrics including antepartum and intrapartum care, in-patient care at Bethesda Hospital and family practice oncology at the Community Cancer Program at Bethesda Hospital. She is the lead for the Family Medicine Enhanced Distributed Education Centre at Steinbach Family Medical and is a lecturer with the Department of Family Medicine at the Max Rady College of Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba. In addition to her busy practice she is also the Vice Chair of the medicine test committee of the Medical Council of Canada in Ottawa. She is a member of the Board of directors of the Bethesda Foundation as well as the Chrysalis Fund a women’s giving circle in Steinbach. She enjoys cycling, swimming, traveling, reading and sleeping in her spare time. She lives in Steinbach with her husband Rod and daughter Siobhan (18) and son Liam (16). Her house is a mess!
Grace Frankel, PharmD, BCPS, EPPh
Dr. Grace Frankel is a clinical pharmacist in Steinbach, Manitoba working for MyHealthTeam in Southern Health. She practices in both primary care as well as inpatient acute care at Bethesda Regional Health Centre. She completed her PharmD from the University of Toronto in 2013, is a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist and an Extended Practice Pharmacist. She also has a nil salaried appointment in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Manitoba teaching contributions within the medical student and medical resident training programs. In her spare time, she enjoys agility and obedience training with her two dogs, is currently training for her first triathlon and is looking forward to building a medical escape room with her husband and a group of family physicians for a conference in the fall.
Julie Mistri, BSc. Pharm
When Julie Mistri is not busy reading about the perils of first generation antihistamines, she is practicing as a clinical primary care pharmacist at PRIME, a managed care program designed to empower medically complex older adults to stay safe and healthy in their own homes. Prior to joining the team at PRIME, Julie worked for almost a decade in the Emergency Department at the Victoria General Hospital, where she piloted the program that eventually led to the establishment of pharmacists in all the emergency departments in Winnipeg. Julie holds a BSc. Pharm from the University of Manitoba.
Nicole Nakatsu, B.Sc. Pharm., BCPS, EPPh
Nicole is the Clinical Resource Pharmacist for Family Medicine for the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority. She maintains a clinical practice on the Teaching Unit at Seven Oaks General Hospital. Nicole has been heavily involved with the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba in developing the opioid replacement therapy guidelines and training program for Manitoba pharmacists and has lectured on opioid dependence to pharmacists, physicians, pharmacy technicians, lab technologists and students.
Cody Magnusson, B.Sc. Pharm, PharmD, RPH
Cody Magnusson is a Hospital Pharmacist working within the Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority, spending most of his time servicing the medicine, chemotherapy, and dialysis units at the Gimli Hospital. He graduated with a BScPharm in 2013 from the University of Manitoba, and went on to complete his post-baccalaureate PharmD through the University of Toronto in the spring of 2018. He is a member of the planning committee for the MEDS Conference, is actively involved on the Education Committee for the Manitoba branch of CSHP, and serves as a peer reviewer for CJHP and CADTH. As a researcher, his focus is on knowledge translation, meta-research, outcome-based evidence, and deprescribing.
George Zhanel, PhD, FCCP
Dr. George G. Zhanel is a Microbiologist and Pharmacologist who is: Professor: Dept. of Medical Microbiology/Infectious Diseases, Max Rady College of Medicine, University of Manitoba (1987 –present) and Director: Canadian Antimicrobial Resistance Alliance (CARA), Max Rady College of Medicine, University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Manitoba, CANADA
Dr. Zhanel has published over 1000 papers, chapters and abstracts in the area of treatment and prevention of infectious diseases. He has presented over 1000 lectures as an invited speaker at international, national, and local meetings speaking on the topics of antimicrobial resistant infections as well as treatment and prevention of infectious diseases in Canada, United States, Central and South America, Western and Eastern Europe including Russia, Australia, Southern and Northern Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
Dr. Zhanel has received or been nominated for 66 teaching awards and is a member of the Who’s Who in Medical Sciences Education (WWMSE).
Colin Reeve, BSP, CDE, CTE, CRE
Colin is a clinical pharmacist and diabetes educator, practicing with the primary care team at the Nor West Community Health Co-op and a recent addition to the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority My Health Team in the Inkster/Seven Oaks catchment. A past recipient of the Takeda Magnum Opus award, Colin is currently pursuing his Doctor of Pharmacy degree at the University of Toronto with academic interests in diabetes, respiratory medicine and pain management with a focus on collaborative models of patient care delivery. Colin has previously held position as the Manitoba representative for the Canadian Pharmacists Association Diabetes Strategy for Pharmacists and currently holds position as a Manitoba Vice President for the Pharmacists for a Smoke-Free Canada.
